Purpose and Approach

The aim of the English Preparatory Program is to enable students who will study in departments where the language of instruction is English to acquire fundamental and academic English language skills at international standards so that they can pursue their departmental courses effectively. Our program adopts a student-centered approach that takes individual differences into account, supports learner autonomy, and aims to instill sound study habits and information-seeking strategies, including the effective use of technology. It also seeks to develop effective communication, self-management, social, research, critical thinking, and creative thinking skills that students can use in their academic, professional, and social lives.

Curriculum and Process

Before beginning their departmental studies, newly enrolled students take the English Proficiency Exam. Those who are successful, or who document a sufficient score from an equivalent, recognized language exam, proceed directly to their departments. Students whose language level is insufficient take a placement test and are placed in the corresponding level.

The Preparatory Program offers instruction at four levels. The duration of study is one academic year. Students who start at the upper-intermediate level may transfer to their departments mid-year if they pass the January proficiency exam. Students who do not complete the program within one year continue their preparatory education in the following academic year. Throughout the process, advising instructors closely monitor and support students’ academic progress.

Educational Model

The curriculum is designed in line with the principles of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). In addition to in-class practices, the program reinforces learning through a writing and speaking-focused language center, advising office hours, additional individual and group study sessions, and extra-curricular activities.

Physical and Technological Facilities

Our school provides students with a rich and sustainable learning environment through:

Advanced technological infrastructure that supports face-to-face and distance learning, language laboratories, and a writing and speaking-focused language center.

Academic Staff

Instruction is delivered by qualified Turkish and international lecturers who value each student as an individual and provide educational advising in addition to teaching. With a dynamic team that values professional development, embraces teamwork, and uses technology effectively, the unit serves as a modern educational institution.
